About John Tortorella
Award-winning pool and spa designer John Tortorella oversees the concept, design and construction of every pool that bears his name. And he has since the very beginning.
John founded the company in 1981 when he graduated with a degree in business and marketing from the New York Institute of Technology. Having worked his way through school cleaning pools – and spending years working side by side with his father, a mason by trade – John not only saw the lack of creativity and quality in the pool industry…he knew he could do better. John was right.
Today, J. Tortorella Swimming Pools ranks among the top firms nationwide and has designed some of the most spectacular pools on Long Island, from their Southampton and Hampton Bays locations. Showcased in such leading publications as House & Gardens, Forbes and The New York Times, the company's numerous awards include those from the National Swimming Pool Institute, North East Spa & Pool Association, Pool & Spa News; it also was named the "Best of the Best" in Eastern Long Island's infamous Dan's Papers.
The pool business is the flagship in a family of J. Tortorella companies: Autochem, which provides bulk chemicals to commercial clients; Accents by J. Tortorella, a retailer of high-end pool and outdoor décor and accessories; J. Tortorella Heating and Gas, a propane distributor; Serafina Industries, a provider of specialty concrete products, and Sun Stream USA, a distributor of alternative energy products John founded in 2003.
An environmentalist, John also is very active in his community and industry. He has been involved in the North East Spa & Pool Association and National Swimming Pool Institute, locally in the Southampton Business Alliance, Southampton Little League and Southampton Youth Soccer Association, as well as the American Heart Association, which honored him in 2004 for his years of dedicated service.
